Telmisartan
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 40 mg once daily. May be increased if necessary to max of 80 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction. Renal impairment. Not recommended during lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, & dose-related orthostatic hypotension; impaired renal function, rash (rarely), urticaria, pruritus, angioedema, & raised liver enzyme values; hyperkalaemia, myalgia, arthralgia; resp tract disorders, back pain, GI disturbances, fatigue, & neutropenia. Rhabdomyolysis (rarely).
Drug Interactions
May potentiate antihypertensive effects w/ drugs or other agents that lower BP. Additive hyperkalaemic effect w/ K supplements, K-sparing diuretics, or other drugs that can cause hyperkalaemia. Increased risk of renal impairment (particularly in those who are inadequately hydrated) & attenuated hypotensive effect w/ NSAIDs. Interactions may occur w/ drugs that affect cytochrome P450 isoenzymes.
